How many senses have we got?

Hi folks!
It's me again, Martic! How are things going in The Earth? Here in Mars we are celebrating Saint Valentine's Day. Did you know that Marshis people celebrate Saint Valentine's on the 15th of February? Yes! This is because Cupid used to visit first The Earth and the day after he visits Mars.
In my classroom, I am linking this special day to the 5 senses humans have. We are asking ourselves how people interact and make relationships such as friendship or partnership.
The purpose of the following pictures is to represent humans acts when interacting with the environment, with other people and with themselves. I have designed this topic to be carried out in a CLIL lesson with 2nd graders. The photographs displayed below will help me to introduce and to explain the topic of the 5 senses. To activate students' talking time, I will ask them some questions such as:
- How can humans hear the different sounds on the street?
- Which sense do humans use to distinguish fragances?
- How do humans choose what they like when having lunch?
- Which sense do humans use to hug somebody?
- How do they watch TV?
- Can they live without any of these senses? Why?
As I explained above, these illustrations are a backup for the introduction of the 5 senses topic. However, they offer multiple opportunities to be used in the classroom. For example, using them to create writing activities.
Under each picture, we can ask the students to select and write the verb used for each sense. This is an example:
- I can (hear/ smell)___________ the birds on the street.
- I can (see/ smell) ___________ the nice smell of a pie.
- I can (touch/ taste) ___________ the spicy food in this Indian meal.
- I can (touch/ hear) ___________ the rough surface of the orange.
- I can (see/ taste) ____________ the blue sky.
Moreover, through this activity we are working on grammar points such as the verb Can to talk about the ability of something, and we are working also on vocabulary points introducing some adjectives.
An extension activity could be to write a Saint Valentine's card to the students in The Earth.
