Storyboard a video project

Hi folks!

How are things going in The Earth? Here in Marsh we are all having a super duper week celebrating the World Book Day! As you know, the 23rd of April was the international day of the book. On April 23, 1616, Cervantes, Shakespeare and Garcilaso de la Vega died. Also on 23rd April, other important writers such as Maurice Druon, K. Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla or Manuel Mejía Vallejo were born or died. This is the main reason there is a special day in our calendars on 23rd April.

I was telling you this because the other day, we were in class working on past times and how people were prevented from reading books about politics. My students got shocked when they found out that women could not read at all any kind of books years ago. So I decided to dedicate some of my time to work on Micromachism nowadays in our daily lives.

Micromachism is a hidden form of gender violence that include strategies, gestures, things, acts of everyday life that are subtle, almost imperceptible but that are transmitted from generation to generation.

Due to its current flow, my colleagues and I have decided to create a project with the students in which the teachers record a video to use later on for a flipped classroom activity. The content of the video, as I mentioned before will be micromachism in our daily life. Through this activity we want our students reflex on the importance of small details about gender and how it affects our lives.

In order to carry out the project, we had to create a document in which we explain the different daily life situations we wanted to represent so as to make the students think.

To create this document we used Google drive which is a free tool to share documents with other people with just one click with a gmail account.

On this document we specified the different sketches of the video and the script to memorise. Some of the situations we are going to represent:
  • Advertisement in a supermarket
  • Different kind of questions asked in an interview for a job
  • Children films
  • On the streets
  • Lyrics of a new song
With this activity we aimed at making students aware of the problems these kind of situations can create for our future lives.

However, we should not forget why we have chosen this topic. The goals we bear in mind when creating this project are:

  • To make students understand what the meaning of micromachism is in the real world

  • To make children reflect on the harm micromachism does to society

  • To engage students to use ICTs for educational purposes

  • To motivate students to create their own projects

  • To develop collaborative group work attitudes

  • To develop Social and Civic Key Competence

  • To use role plays and drama activities to foster communicative skills and enhance oral skills

  • To improve the communicative competence in a  foreign language; English

  • To develop cultural activities so as to achieve an open- minded attitude.

  • To use meaningful strategies to work on micromachism content.

Creating this part of the project has been rewarding as we have had to work cooperatively, share different ideas and exchange positive feedback. I recommend you using these kind of activities with your students or your mates so as to have fun while learning.

Below you can find the Google drive document which we have used to design the project, give out different roles, write the script to use in the video and the contents.

I hope you enjoy it!
See you!

Irish Poems Recital

Hi folks! Welcome to a new entry of this learning journal. Did you know that last month the 17th of March was Saint Patrick's Day? Let me tell you a bit more about this festivity.  Saint Patrick's Day is a really big party for everything to do with the country, Ireland. Its people, art, religion and all the things Irish people like to do. This special day happens every year on March, 17, which marks the date when Saint Patrick, a catholic priest in charged of spreading the Christian word.  You might be wondering why I am telling you all these things. Well, in my school in Mars we are immersed on a radio- project related to Irish Poems. We have created a podcast in which students participate actively introducing themselves for a later on activity to podcast recitals of Irish poems. What it is very important is the use of ICTs in these kind of activities. Through the tool Soundcloud , we engage students to upload their own recordings in order to make a collection...

How many senses have we got?

How many senses have we got? Photograph by Alexas_Fotos CC0 Creative Commons   Hi folks! It's me again, Martic! How are things going in The Earth? Here in Mars we are celebrating Saint Valentine's Day. Did you know that Marshis people celebrate Saint Valentine's on the 15th of February? Yes! This is because Cupid used to visit first The Earth and the day after he visits Mars.  In my classroom, I am linking this special day to the 5 senses humans have. We are asking ourselves how people interact and make relationships such as friendship or partnership. The purpose of the following pictures is to represent humans acts when interacting with the environment, with other people and with themselves. I have designed this topic to be carried out in a CLIL lesson with 2nd graders. The photographs displayed below will help me to introduce and to explain the topic of the 5 senses. To activate students' talking time, I will ask them some questions ...
